Moment 1 of 8 · Stanzas 1-2, lines 1-6
The crime and the sentence
At school, a boy does something the adults treat as very serious, although the narrator admits in brackets to having forgotten what it was. The teacher tells him to stay behind in the classroom until half past two.
“Something Very Wrong”
Who
- The boy
- The teacher
- The narrator
Why it matters
The label outlives the crime, so from the start school justice seems more concerned with categories than with what a child actually did.
